Newport Cares Summer Food Boxes

For the past five years, NMO-UMC has provided Summer Food Boxes for the same students who received backpacks through the Newport Cares Backpack Program.  You are invited to join us as we assemble these boxes at our Change the World event on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Last year, 48 Summer Food Boxes were provided to hungry students at a time when they are unable to access regular school meals.

The Change the World Tree is currently located in the church entryway.  Needed food items are listed on different flowers that are hanging on the tree.   You are encouraged to “adopt” a flower (or two!) and bring in the food items through the end of May.  Items are placed under the Easter cross to remind us that this is a response to God’s glorious gift of the Resurrection.

This ministry also receives food items through the national Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that is annually conducted by the US Postal Service on the second Saturday of May (May 12, 2018).  All food items collected through the Newport zip code (24128) come into the church and are sorted and processed for inclusion in the summer Food Boxes.
