College of the Holy Cross Alternative Spring Break

For the past three years, NMO-UMC has hosted students from College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, Massachusetts) for an Alternative Spring Break.  These students live at our church for an entire week and take on projects that improve the church and community including the Village Green, the Newport Community Center, and the Newport Park.  Members of the church provide meals and support all of our hospitality efforts as well as assistance at the various work-sites in the community.

Our next Holy Cross group will be at NMO-UMC March 2-8, 2019!

Our 2018 College of the Holy Cross students included (left to right):

Adriana Guadana-Huizar (Colorado), Paulina Martin (Massachusetts), Mark Kubasak (San Diego, California), Jack Slania (Chicago, Illinois), Mary Baumann (Connecticut), Caitlin Tzimorotas (New York City/Queens), and group leader Marie Therese Kane (Alexandria, Virginia).  This was Marie-Therese’s fourth Alternative Spring Break trip and her second venture to Giles County, working with a group in Pearisburg in 2016.  After graduation, Marie-Therese will be going to Nicaragua with the Peace Corps.
